The Scout Troop took a trip over to Kelverton Hatch Nuclear Secret Bunker for a fascinating and fun filled "sleepover".
The Scouts started the evening by investing 10 new Scouts outside the Bunker under the floodlights followed by Ware and District Scouts Commissioner Pat Horridge presenting 4 Scouts with their Chief Scouts Silver Awards in front of their parents.
Huge congratulations to Rhys Miles, Benjamin Jowitt, Alex Hartwig-Green and Millie Jowitt on your completing your Chief Scout Silver Awards - the highest award a Cub Scout can achieve.
As the parents left, the Scouts entered the bunker to take the audio tour of this de-commissioned 1950's Nuclear Bunker which was built to hold up to 600 people and Government officials for several months.
The Scouts enjoyed a fascinating tour of many rooms going down 3 floors underground before taking part in over 10 team challenges spread around the Bunker.
After a late night snack of Hot Dogs and drinks, there was abseiling down the stairwell and a hunt the 'fake' bomb game which had the Scouts exploring every corner of the Bunker looking for the 'devices' before bringing them back to be defused before the (egg-timer) 'alarms' went off. With Scouts and Leaders still abseiling until after 2am, eventually everyone bedded down into their sleeping bags to watch a film and try to get some sleep.
After a few hours of sleep, it was up and out ready for the parents to collect their rather weary but very happy Scouts at 8.45am - before the Bunker re-opened to the Public.
A great night for everyone and an extraordinary experience for everyone, especially new Scouts Molly, Harry, Isabela R, Alex, Hannah, Emma, Benji, Rhys, Millie and Keira.
